Grindelwald: Jungfrau

On my way to Grindelwald from Zermatt I decided to make a quick stop in Spiez. I had to change trains there anyway and I wanted to see a bit more of Switzerland. It turned out to be very quick; a walk down to the lake, around the church and the castle and back only took my 45 minutes. It was a nice small vineyard town right on the lake, and much more my speed than neighboring Interlaken which is jam packed with extreme sports and tourists.

I wasn’t sure what to expect of Grindelwald; I …

Zermatt: Matterhorn

Again, I seem to have ended up in a place that is good for me. That keeps happening. The last couple of days have reminded me, AGAIN, that I do in fact enjoy traveling by myself. Of course there are places for it, like Switzerland, and places I wouldn’t, like Jordan or Morocco. I am blessed to have both.
I really liked Zurich for the day I was there. Clean, organized, friendly, pretty, environmentally conscious. I could see living there for awhile. I’m sure Deha had some part in that welcomed feeling, but even running my …

Growth and on to Switzerland

(Sorry for the double posting today, wifi has been hard to come by in Casa and until now.)
This is what I wrote in my notebook 2 days ago, suck in an impersonal hotel outside the Casablanca Airport:

Sahara Desert!

Our night in Imlil was refreshing; both the temperature and the atmosphere. There are a lot of foreign tourists who stay over in this little town like we did, but it doesn’t feel like it. After blessed hot showers we wandered down the two streets in town searching for a good dinner spot. Lots of fresh vegetables for sale, as well as meat. Just meat. Hanging right out in the street. Presumably goat, judging by the entire raw goat heads also for sale.
One local dinnerspot was absolutely packed, and although they didn’t have the …

Morocco: Marrakech & High Atlas

After an exhausting day of getting out of Egypt, then struggling with an extremely inefficient train ticketing system, we eventually got a cab from the airport and were promptly ripped off. Immediately; here was the first example of swindling of many we would have. There are signs posted at the taxi stand with the standard rates; it said 250 Moroccan Dirham (~ $30) to downtown Casablanca. We confirmed the price with the driver, got in, and 5 minutes down the road he said that because it was dark out they charge an extra 50%. What?? …
