It’s decided. Diana is heading east further up this path where the weather is warmer and walking back to where she met me. We may yet meet up after the Pyrenees depending on both of our timing.
I’m heading to Barcelona to take a week of Spanish classes. I figure if I have to sit around waiting to heal, I might as well be productive, and I can take a bus to wherever in Spain that I want to start walking again.
I spent the day on the Internet googling language schools all across Spain until Diana came in and ushered me out for a surprise; a German woman we met a few nights ago had just gotten in to Pau and they happened to bump in to each other! We got some lovely ice cream and enjoyed the (rare) sunshine and an amazing view of the Pyrenees. Then we walked very slowly to the chateau which apparently housed Henry IV at one point. I’ll take a train/bus south tomorrow, not sure yet if the home stay I requested in Barcelona will be ready and it’s late now to book so I may stay a night somewhere else. The knee feels okay as long as I walk veery slowly and don’t make any sudden movements.
Thank you for the messages if support and solidarity!!

Yay! A creative and thoughtful Plan B.

Barcelona – Good decision!
We have been following your account, but we have had a houseful of company for the last week and response wasn’t possible. But in sum, we have been wincing at your experience with blisters, sore muscles and joints, wind, and rain – and marveling at the same time over your photos. Your decision to ‘adjust’ to the elements and reality by sidetracking to Barcelona for a language class is really smart.
Barcelona is a WONDERFUL city – and I am really glad you will be able to spend time there. You will love the Gaudi architecture, and make certain you get up the hill to the Gaudi Park. The Picasso museum is also great – be certain to see Picasso’s portrait of his mother – from his early years. It completely answers the question of “could he really paint?”. Walking down the Strand notice all the shoe stores – and the fact that locals always check out your face, and then your shoes! And the food is great – IF you can wait until 10:30 pm for an ‘early’ dinner.
And, oh yeah, find time for your language lessons – although that may be a challenge!

I’m glad to hear you’re taking a short break, giving your body time to rest and heal!! Keep up the posts, love reading them!!!
But seriously, WHEN are you coming home?? 🙂
Sorry the knees aren’t holding up. I should have gone with you and we could have had bad knees together! Sounds like you are making the best of it. Good luck.
My right knee started going yesterday. Sympathy pains? I’m so glad you’re gonna lay low in Spain. Can’t wait to hear about what foods you find. Enjoy!
Silly girl! I’m not coming home for awhile yet, I hope!! Miss you!!
