It’s time again. I feel like I’m always ready to go but never quite ready to leave. But, the next trip is brewing.
I have made good, steady recovery after surgery to remove a broken bone in my foot. While I won’t be back up to physical snuff for another 2 months I am recently cleared to walk and drive again, and plan to make good use of my returned mobility!

I woke up before Kristen, unzipped the tent door on my side, and soaked in the sun creeping down the wall of the crater.
It’s hard to believe, but I’m even more of a morning person than she is, so I popped up, filtered more water, boiled coffee and made a big pot of hot cereal (my own mix of oatmeal, soy grits, flax seed, chia seed, cinnamon, salt and a couple sugar cubes) before she even got out of bed. Again, I’m over 2 months late in posting this, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. The week after Labor Day in September I met my great friend Kristen Burg out in Denver for a 5 day backpacking trip in the southern Rocky Mountains. My Birthday, in the White Mountains
I was recently reminded that I left this blog hanging. I thought this might be a great time to give an update: an epic birthday weekend hiking one of the most difficult terrains in the northeast!
